You will be analyzing student work from “your class” concerning the given lesson goal.
The lesson goal: To solve multiplication problems with 3 single-digit factors in a variety of contexts.
Before looking at the student work:
Solve the task ATTACHED DOC
Solve it in 2 different ways.
What errors do you anticipate students might make?
Now look at the student work ATTACHED DOC (You should print the student work so that it is easier to sort.)
Sort the student work. Reflect on how you sorted the work based on the Multiplication Framework ATTACHED DOC Name the groups and tell why you put certain student work together in that way. Talk specifically about the strengths of each student in each group as well as where they can further develop. What evidence do you see of developing understanding? What issues are evident in the student work?
Select and sequence 3-4 pieces of student work from the solutions you sorted to respond to the evidence in the student work. Why did you choose these students? Why did you sequence them in the order you did? What questions would you ask students about the solutions to help move their thinking along the multiplication progression?
Identify a new problem that you might pose to this class of students. Include questions you will ask the class concerning this new problem. Make sure to address why you think it would be a good next step for this group of students.
This analysis should be 4-5 pages long. Being detailed and thorough is extremely important.
